President’s Message by Frank Schack

By the time you read this it will almost be or already is 2019. Wishing you the very best in the year ahead, especially good health.

The new year is a time for new beginnings and renewal of commitments. Since we did not receive any nominations to fill the Board positions of the NJCB, the current officers have agreed to continue their offices for another year and then review the status of the Council.

Due to the possibility of inclement weather, the January quarterly meeting will be held as a conference call (details are in the Chronicle). You do not have to leave the comfort of your home (you can even stay in your pajamas) in order to call in. It is imperative for us to know your interest and recommendations in order for the Council to continue. Your input is essential and valued. Looking forward to hearing from you on January 26th.

Frank Schack, President

News from Mercer County Association of the Blind (MCAB)

Happy and safe Holiday Season to everyone from members of MCAB. An oversight was discovered by MCAB’s Officers where we thought we had made a donation to past President of NJCB and longtime MCAB member Lauren Casey but we had not. So that was corrected with a $50.00 donation to her favorite Charity.

Eve who did the OrCam presentation at NJCB Summer quarterly meeting was scheduled to give her presentation to MCAB Membership at November’s Meeting but that was cancelled due to bad weather. Eve has been rescheduled to give her presentation at the February 2019 meeting.

MCAB’s Members enjoyed a wonderful social Christmas/Holiday Dinner at Restaurant Villa Manino enjoying good spirits, fellowship and delicious foods.

Although MCAB has had a series of illnesses in our membership we look forward positively at 2019 at being better and pray to our Lord that everyone have a wonderful Holiday Season and New Year.

Best regards

Mustafaa Shabazz, MCAB President

News from Blind Citizen’s Association

Happy Holiday’s from NJBCA! It’s hard to believe that it is already December and another year is coming to a close. Seems as if only yesterday we were enjoying our picnic lunch!

We experienced 3 lovely concerts at the PNC bank arts center in late August/September. Lucie Arnaz, Vinnie Medugno with the Jersey Sound Band and finally a tribute to Roy Orbison, Frankie Valli and the Beach Boys. What a lot of fun!

NJBCA recently enjoyed an outing to St. Catharine’s church in Holmdel for their social justice holiday gathering. A potluck dinner and wonderful desserts were enjoyed by all, topped off with a few carols and a visit from St. Nicholas himself.

Our Ladies Auxiliary and other volunteers have been doing a phenomenal job in Anne’s Thrift Shop. Business is booming! The next spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be sometime in April of 2019.

And for those of you who are interested, the 14th annual NJBCA Gift Auction will be held Friday, June 8. Look for more information after the new year.
